Warranty management: stop paying for repairs you've already bought

17 October 2026 · 5 min read · Sanjeev Soni

Tracking warranties and support contracts against each asset cuts repair costs, reduces downtime and informs smarter refresh decisions.

The hidden cost of poor warranty tracking

Organisations frequently pay for out-of-pocket repairs on devices still under warranty, or let coverage lapse on critical servers. Both happen when warranty data sits outside the asset register.

Link warranty to every asset

Record warranty start and end dates, coverage level (next-business-day, onsite, accidental damage), and OEM entitlement IDs against each serial number. Many OEMs provide APIs to pull this automatically.

Use warranty in lifecycle decisions

Set alerts 60–90 days before expiry to decide: extend, renew, refresh or retire. Aligning refresh with warranty end avoids costly post-warranty failures and maximises resale value.

Measure and improve

Track warranty claim recovery, repair cost per device and coverage gaps on critical assets. Review supplier SLA performance at each contract renewal.
